School-age 'pot' smoking levels off; cocaine is up

Research indicates that marijuana smoking among American high school students may be leveling off for the first time in more than a decade, while cocaine use is on the increase. The University of Michigan Institute for Social Research has released results of a survey of 17,000 seniors enrolled in 130 US public and private high schools. The number of young people reporting daily or nearly use of marijuana almost doubled between 1975 and 1978, but held steady last year. About 11 percent of those surveyed in 1979 reportedly daily use of marijuana.
