Earthquake shakes northern California

An earthquake, apparently centered southeast of San Francisco, shook a large area of northern California Thursday. Minor damage was reported and there were some injuries. The Department of Energy installation at Livermore was somewhat damaged, but the nuclear reactor was apparently unharmed, reports Monitor correspondent Brad Knickerbocker. The quake registered 5.5 on the Richter scale.
