Guerrilla leader OK, aide hurt in Rhodesia violence

Rhodesian guerrilla leader Robert Mugabe escaped uninjured from a grenade attack on his Salisbury home Wednesday, but one of his senior aides was injured seriously in a separate rocket attack.

Three men who police indicated were followers of Bishop Abel T. Muzorewa were arrested in connection with the grenade incident. The bishop later issued a statement urging his followers to refrain from political violence.

The incidents came just hours after Britain's colonial governor, Lord Soames, announced he was assuming wide new powers in an effort to halt rising political violence three weeks before a vote for an independence parliament.
