Stocks soar on prospects of gas find, hostage exit

The Dow Jones industrial average pushed through the 900 barrier early Wednesday in heavy trading as investors reacted to prospects for a large gas find in Wyoming and the release of hostages in Iran. The Dow average, which climbed 9.39 points Tuesday to a 16-month high, was ahead 8.02 points to 907 at 11 a.m. eastern standard time. It last closed above 900 on Oct. 11, 1978, finishing at 901.42.
