Attic cure for icicles

To the real estate editor: One cannot shade the sun but one can surely keep the heat from the underside of the roof by venting the attic.

Remove the attic floor boards and fill the spaces between the timbers with either insulation batts or granules, using a vapor barrier at the bottom and especially around the cover to the attic. Replace the floor boards and go after the roof timbers. Fill the spaces, especially at the roof peak. Apply plaster board or acoustic panels, making sure the joints are filled with spackle, paper tape, etc. Cover the sheets with one inch of cork which is well cemented, especially along the edges.

Result: No more icicles. O. D. Maclachlan Hoosick, N.Y.
