Illinoisan, on trial, loses bid for US Senate

Illinois Attorney General William J. Scott lost his race for the Republican Senate nomination Tuesday while a federal District Court jury tried to decide whether he is guilty of income tax evasion. The jurors -- none of whom bothered to vote -- resumed deliberations Wednesday. Mr. Scott lost the nomination to Lt. Gov. Dave O'Neal -- a former southern illinois sheriff.
