Britain apologizes for film that angered Saudi Arabia

Britain, in an effort to allay Saudi Arabian anger, apologized to the Arab nation for the screening of a television film on the execution of a Saudi princess and her lover, a Foreign Office spokesman said Thursday. The documentary of the 1977 execution of the couple for adultery was shown. Wednesday night, despite protests by the Saudi government. One veteran British diplomat said in unconfirmed reports that Saudi Arabia was threatening to break off diplomatic relations and was in a mood to cut off oil shipments to Britain.
