Spending for science up, not down

The National Science Foundation, in 1979, spent nearly $1 billion on research ($926 million). This year it will spend $990 million and, in 1981, an estimated For 1981, research in mathematics and the physical sciences is budgeted at $ 264 million; biological sciences at $182 million; and engineering, $137 million.
