I use my knowledge of geometry, squares, angles, circle, plus an understanding of soil conditions, in calculating the best use of my garden space, confined as it is within city sidewalks, street echanges, utility poles. I shift my rows about as a coach maneuvers his front four, substitute fresh fertilizers, much to keep my field in play, spread bells and sirens to keep outsiders and marauders off my yard stripes. Yet somehow my garden fills as an oasis with rabbits, crows, dogs and cats lost in a city labyrinth. They make homes within my rows, between my cabbages, corn and beans hold hands with my scarecrow. As I buy rations for them in feed stores, they guard my crops form a cordon in my honor.
