Vietnamese broaden thrust into Thailand

Hanoi attacked on two new fronts in Thailand Wednesday and sent 10,000 fresh troops close to the embattled Thai-Cambodian frontier in a rapid broadening of its invasion. Fierce fighting centered on the devastated village of Mark Mun, where Thai forces retook an abandoned refugee camp outside the village under cover of heavy artillery fire.

At least 100 people -- Thais, Vietnamese, and Cambodians -- were known killed in the three day war, and another 500 civilians have been confirmed wounded. Many Cambodian refugees, whose camps are in the area, were believed wounded and tens of thousands were thought to be trapped behind the Vietnamese lines.
