Carter son's firm holds contract with Philippines

President Carter's son Keff is cofounder and partner in a computer mapping firm that recently won a $210,000 contract from the government of Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos, Time magazine says.

The firm became a consultant for the World Bank, which in March 1978 sent Robert Mercready, Jeff, and Jeff's wife, Annette, to Manila to study the city's solid waste disposal.

Time says President Carter approved his son's trip, but told the State Department that Jeff and Annette should not be given red-carpet treatment by the US Embassy in Manila. However, they were met by President Marcos's younger daughter; paid a courtesy call on his wife; and were guests at a lunch for Chinese Foreign Minister Huang Hua.
