Zimbabwe Cabinet official gets bail in murder case

Cabinet minister Edgar Tekere, charged with murdering a white farmer, was released on bail of $75,000 Tuesday after Prime Minister Robert Mugabe pledged to ensure that he would not evade trial. On Aug. 7 Mr. Tekere was refused bail because a judge feared he would interfere with state witnesses or abscond.

Acting Attorney General Christopher Glaum set six conditions for bail, including surrendering all travel documents, staying within 12 miles of the center of Salisbury, and carrying no firearms. He also cannot communicate with any state witnesses or discuss the case with the news idea.
