John Anderson has taken his presidential campaign to California amid suggestions that he is giving serious consideration to the possibility of a black running mate from that state.

A spokesman for the liberal New Democratic Coalition said in Washington Aug. 23 that Rep. Ronald Dellums (D) of California, vice-president of the Congressional Black Caucus, "is being given priority consideration as a possible running mate" by Anderson.

The Rev. Charles Briody, a field representative of the group, said Anderson and Representative Dellums would meet in Washington Aug. 27. Dellums had his name placed in nomination for president at the Democratic National Convention to focus attention on minority issues.

Anderson refused to confirm that Dellums was under consideration as a possible running mate. But he said Dellums was a "good friend" and that they had worked together in Congress.
