Poland's miners continue their strike

Miners at eight mines in the vital Silesian coal-mining region negotiated with the government Monday to end a four-day-old strike over demands that included the right to set up independent trade unions. The miners continued their strike as workers on the Baltic coast returned to their jobs after reaching agreement with the government Sunday on demands including the right to form trade unions independent of Communist Party control and the right to strike. Some reports say 30,000 strikers are involved, including some steel workers.
