S. Korean premier chosen with eye to the economy

President Chun Doo Hwan formed his new Cabinet Tuesday, naming Nam Duck Woo, an American-Educated architect of South Korea's economic miracle in the 1970s, as acting prime minister. Mr. Chuns's choice indicates the importance the former Army general has placed on pulling the South Korean economy out of a prolonged recession. The new Cabinet includes seven ministers from the old Cabinet, plus 12 newcomers. Many were bureaucrats in the government of President Park Chung Hee, assassinated last October.
