Zimbabwe cuts ties with South Africa

Zimbabwe announced Wednesday night it had several diplomatic relations with South Africa. A Foreign Ministry statement said Zimbabwe's diplomatic and consular representatives in South Africa were being recalled and its missions in Pretoria and Cape Town were closed Wednesday afternoon. Zimbabwe would maintain a trade mission in Johannesburg, the statement added. The break had been expected after Prime Minister Robert Mugabe came to power and Zimbabwe joined other African states in the quest for an end to white minority rule in South Africa.
