As the need for more hotel space continues to grow in New York, one of the city's oldest hotels, the New York Statler, is undergoing a four-year, $25 million restoration. The 61-year-old hotel is being totally restored to its "Neo-Renaissance" feeling.

Five hundred of the 1,800 guest rooms are being renovated, and Sico beds, which fold up into the wall and disappear to allow rooms to double as conference rooms, have been installed in 70 of the rooms.

The work is expected to be completed in 1984, coincident with the opening of the New York Exposition and Convention Center, under construction nearby.
