The Federation of American Scientists was "gravely disturbed." So they fired off a letter to Ronald Reagan to ask whether he really believes in astrology and fortune telling, as a newspaper story had indicated.

The scientists said that "in our opinion, no person whose decisions are based , even in part, on such evident fantasies can be trusted to make the many serious - and even life and death -- decisions required of American presidents."

Reagan spokesman Ken Towery denies that the candidate has any serious interest in fortune telling or astrology. He reveals that Reagan responded to the federation this way:

"While Nanacy and I enjoy occasionally glancing at the horoscope when we're in town (which is not very often), I can truthfully say that I have never made a decision based on it -- nor will I ever."m
