North Jersey towns get spot checks of water use

Water companies have begun spot inspections in 114 towns to ensure that more than 2.5 million residents are complying with Gov. Brendan T. Byrne's order to ration water in the parched northern quarter of New Jersey. Businesses are to cut consumption 25 percent and households must limit consumption to 50 gallons per person daily.
