Iraqis fly new strikes on Iran industrial targets

Low-flying Iraqi aircraft struck at Tehran's Mehrabad Airport and industrial targets stretching several miles around it in a dramatic new offensive in the two-week-old Persian Gulf war. At least three people were killed and 65 injured , according to first reports. Airport sources reported major damage to a military aircraft repair and service area and a small petrochemical plant near the airport.

Several planes took part in the heaviest strike on the Iranian capital since the start of the war, after beating an extensive radar network by flying low. It was the second time in as many days that Iraqi aircraft managed to reach the capital without being detected by radar. Initial reports said Tehran refinery, just outside the city, was hit but official sources said later the Iraqi planes missed it.
