Israel and Egypt resume Palestine autonomy talks

Israel and Egypt resumed talks on Palestinian autonomy amid American hopes that newly reformulated Israeli positions will lead to real progress. US officials say they are encouraged by the forthcoming attitude of an Israeli document they have received and that it is up to Egypt to reciprocate. They are particularly encouraged by Israel's attitude on the issue of land, which both the United States and Egypt regard as a litmus test on Israel's intentions in the negotiations. Besides the substance of the talks, the ministers plan to discuss a three-way summit, expected before the end of 1980.
