Zambian President Warns of plotting for a coup

President Kenneth Kaunda accused a group of Zambian "antirevolutionaries," supported by an armed gang of mainly foreign mercenaries and South Africa, of planning a coup against his government the night of Oct. 16-17. Dr. Kaunda was explaining the introduction of an indefinite, dusk-to-dawn curfew on most of Zambia's major towns and cities last Thursday.Since the curfew began, a number of prominent Zambians have been rounded up and held in custody.
