Who's building windmill generators?

I would like to know about a windmill to produce electricity. Can you give me the names of any manufacturers as well as the addresses? Allan L. Meyer Fairview Heights, Ill.

Many readers have asked about windmills over the four years that this column has been running in the Monitor.

Even the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) and the Department of Energy (DOE) are collaborating to help electric utilities assess the potential of large wind turbine generators in boosting their power output.

For a start, you can contact the American Wind Energy Association, 1621 Connecticut Avenue, NW, Washington, D.C. 20009. The telephone number is: (202) 667-9137.

You might even write to two or three wind-turbine-generator distributors and/or manufacturers.

The DOE sent me a list of such companies some time ago but none is located in Illinois. There is, however, a company called Environmental Energies inc. in Michigan which sells a number of brand-name wind systems. The address is PO Box 73, Copemish, Mich. 49625.

TWo others are: Dyna Technology Inc., PO Box 3263, Sioux City, Iowa 51102, and Northwind Power Company, PO Box 315, Warren, Vt. 05674.

If you go with a wind generator, you're in a growing company, assuming, of course, that such an energy source makes sense in your area.
