Polish union lays plans to strike if court fails it

Poland's free trade union, Solidarity, is planning a series of strikes if the Supreme Court fails to resolve the dispute over its statutes, union officials said. The strike would start in the Baltic port of Gdansk and in Warsaw then spread for a week across the country in selected enterprises, where work would stop for two days at a time. Union officials said the decision on the strikes would be made the day after the Supreme Court announced its ruling on Solidarity's statutes. The court is due to announce its verdict by Nov. 10, and perhaps earlier.
