Iran's joint staff said its Navy wiped out Iraq's oil-export platforms of Mina al-Bakr and Khor al-Amaya at the northern end of the Gulf. It said these were Iraq's only centers for exporting oil through the Gulf and that Iraq could no longer ship its oil by that route.

Iran also reported extensive fighting along the Bahmanshir River flanking Abadan, saying its ground and air forces staved off an Iraqi tank offensive into the oil refinery city. Rationing of essential goods and services -- most immediately sugar and electricity -- was also announced. The price of gasoline is also being raised to private motorists to bring in more revenues.
