Cities line up in the run for 1988 Olympic sites

The International Olympic Committee has received three bids each to stage the 1988 winter and summer Olympic Games. The winter event will be held at Calgary, Alberta; Cortina, d'Ampezzo, Italy; or Falun, Sweden. The summer games are sought by Nagoya, Japan; Melbourne; and Greece, which has asked to stage them as part of its offer of a permanent site for the games.

Candidate cities will receive a questionnaire to be filled in and returned to the IOC before March 1. The 89 committee members will then choose a site in October.

The 1984 Winter Olympics will be held in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia, and the summer games in Los Angeles.
