Power in (or from) a nutshell

It sounds a little farfetched -- but Pacific Gas & Electric may soon be distributing electrical power generated from nutshells. The California Almond Growers Exchange plans to build an $11 million plant to convert almond shells into fuel-generating power. In addition to making the exchange's california facility self-sufficient in energy, the proposed installation will produce enough extra power to be able to energize an estimated 10,000 Sacramento homes plus several local commercial plants.

A guaranteed shell supply will be readily available from the state's annual multimillion-dollar almond crop, the fifth largest agricultural crop in California.
