Peanut imports urged to ease US shortage

The International Trade Commission recommended that up to 300 million pounds of peanuts be imported to ease price hikes and shortages in peanut butter and peanut products. Last summer's drought slashed peanut production 42 percent -- the smallest crop since 1964 -- increasing prices and threatening to reduce the amount of peanut butter and salted peanuts available.
