My father read nursery catalogs every January when the snow reached the barn roof. They were his tickets to Paradise Island, his Come-To-the-South-of France. Legendary roses drew him like a Greek bargain; he returned from paper apple trees with a new outlook, was refreshed by an envelope of spring radishes, sophisticated by the dream $ %of an incredible peach.
