Angola charges new raids by South African troops

South African forces based in Namibia (South-West Africa) made a new series of raids into southern Angola during the unsuccessful Geneva talks on Namibia, the Angolan news agency Angop said. Quoting a Defense Ministry statement, Angop said South African incursions began with reconnaissance flights Jan. 11 while the Geneva talks, aimed at an independence settlement for Namibia, were still in progress.

The Defense Ministry said the latest raids showed what it called the false intentions of South Africa to solve the problem of Namibia. South africa has said its raids into Angola are directe d against bases of the SWAPO, a nationalist guerrilla group.
