Staff writer wins population prize

Monitor staff writer Richard Harley has been awarded a prize for best individual reporting for 1980 by the Washington-based Population Action council. Mr. Harley was cited for a Sept. 11 article, "When women want fewer children." The award was presented in Washington Jan. 30.

The council is a privately funded organization that marshals public opinion in support of international family planning and population programs for the developing world. It is a division of the Population Institute and has a newtwork of policymakers and com munity-level organizers in 135 countries.
