The automaker, trying desperately to become profitable again, is bringing back the convertible next year. Once a best-seller, convertibles haven't been made in the US since 1976, when Cadillac stopped marketing them. The only convertibles available to US buyers have been a few models sold by European carmakers -- unless a motorist wants to take his vehicle to a car-conversion shop.

The Chrysler convertible will be a limited-production version of the K car. But at a price in the neighborhood of $14,000, it won't come c heaply.m
