Zia regime detains opposition politicians

Police Thursday detained Nusrat Bhutto, widow of executed Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, and six other leading Pakistani opposition politicians, opposition sources said. The opposition leaders were meeting in central Lahore. About 400 supporters of the newly formed Movement for the Restoration of Democracy fought outside the house with police while the meeting took place.

Mrs. Bhutto had left her home in Karachi clandestinely on Tuesday night to attend the Lahore meeting of the nine- party movement to work out a campaign to end martial law.
