Pakistan opposition to protest military rule

Pakistan's newly formed Movement for the Restoration of Democracy will test its popular support for the first time Monday with a call for a national day of protest against the country's military government. The movement, linking nine opposition political parties, gave its backing to a planned court boycott by lawyers in Lahore, Pakistan's political center, and urged all democratic forces to join the protest.

The democracy movement, which includes the former ruling Pakistan People's Party of executed Prime Minister Zulfikar ali Bhutto, drew up its anti-martial law campaign at a secret meet ing in Lahore on Thursday.
