Task force to urge voluntary quotas on autos

Three members of President Reagan's task force on the depressed US car industry strongly suggested Monday they will recommend that he negotiate an agreement with Japan to limit its car exports. The three officials said in testimony to a Senate Finance subcommittee that they favor a negotiated agreement over any mandatory import quota system that would be imposed by Congress.

Cabinet officers Drew Lewis, Malcolm Baldrige, and Bill Brock gave the strongest suggestion to date that the special auto industry task force will recommend that course of action to Mr. Reagan, possibly this week.
