Militant Polish farmers demand talks of Warsaw

Militant farmers who have begun a fresh strike campaign to press for a free trade union, a Rural Solidarity, demanded talks with central government officials as Poland faced a new round of labor unrest. The Warsaw authorities, who won some respite on the labor front Tuesday night with an agreement with Solidarity free trade union leaders in the industrial center of Radom, faced a challenge from the farmers and from a threatened national strike in the timber industry.

Amid the labor troubles, the Polish Democratic Party, one of two political groups linked in an alliance with the Communists, ended a stormy national congress by firing most of its lea ders.
