Colombia reports capture of guerrilla kingpins

The Army has captured or killed most of the high command of the April 19 movement, Colombia's most active leftist guerrilla group, in violent fighting near the Ecuadorean border, an official source said. An estimated 20 guerrillas were killed in clashes in putumayo territory, in which the movement's top leaders were captured, it was reported.

The army victory followed a daring raid by the movement March 11 on the town of Mocoa, capital of Putumayo territory, in which more than 100 guerrillas seized the town of 20,000 inhabitants, before fleeing into the mountainous countryside.
