Britain promises to give refugee aid to Pakistan

Britain's foreign secretary, Lord Carrington, visiting Pakistan's Baluchistan Province bordering Afghanistan, pledged $8.8 million in aid to cope with problems caused by the influx of 300,000 refugees. He told a meeting of refugee leaders at a camp site 60 miles from Quetta that Britain and European Common Market countries supported them and understood th eir problems.
