Dayan running in Israel with independent slate

Former Foreign Minister Moshe Dayan, who broke with Prime Minister Menachem Begin over the Palestinian issue, says he will lead an independent ticket of candidates in the June 30 general elections.

Mr. Dayan, in launching his "State Renewal Movement," said the slate features a cross section of Israelis from all walks of life.

By and large, the new party remains committed to the 1978 Camp David accords, which produced an Egyptian-Israeli peace treaty seven months later. But it advocates unilateral measures to break the deadlock on Palestinian autonomy talks, and calls for a unilateral Israeli troop withdrawal from population centers in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, which have a population of 1.2 million P alestinians.
