75% of jobless would take menial jobs, a poll finds

An overwhelming 75 percent of the nation's jobless would accept a menial job with pay ranging from the minimum $3.35 an hour to $4.50 an hour, a Los Angeles Times Poll has found.

More than 48 percent of the unemployed Americans surveyed said they would seek restaurant jobs and 40 percent said they would apply for garment industry jobs. Both industries employ large numbers of illegal aliens to do menial work.

The Times Poll interviewed 1,681 American adults -- employed and unemployed -- during an eight-day period ending March 22
