Business outspent labor for congressional races

Big business and trade associations outspent organized labor by a 2-to-1 margin, pouring $4.1 million into the 1980 campaigns to 54 key members of Congress, according to "The Common Cause Guide to Money, Power, and Politics in the 97th Congress." This reversed the 1976 pattern, when labor was the big campaign spender.

The report from the citizens' watchdog group lists all campaign contributions from political-action committees to congressional leaders, high-ranking commit tee members, and other key lawmakers.
