Salvadoran church official says foes seek 'dialogue'

El Salvador's leading church official blamed both guerillas and the ruling junta for violence, but said that "those who once rejected dialogue now seek it, " Monitor contributor Laurent Belsie reports. Speaking at Harvard's Institute of Politics, Arturo Rivera y Damas, administrator of the San Salvador archdiocese, called for an end to US military aid, but also condemned all foreign military aid. This impartial condemnation represents a shift from the views of his predecessor, the leftist-leaning Msgr. Oscar Arnulfo Romero, who was assassinated a year ago.
