FOOTBALL; Bengals add some stripes

Most National Football League teams give their uniforms a little pizzazz by using an insignia or stylized lettering.About the only clubs hesitant to customize their attire have been the two Ohio franchises, Cleveland and Cincinnati. Striping across the top is all that keeps Cleveland from wearing the league's only unadorned helmet, and Cincinnati's isn't much flashier, with simple block letters spellings "BENGALS" on the side and no stripes.

Claiming that the league has urged his team to wear more distinctive uniforms , owner Paul Brown will outfit his Bengals in tiger-striped helmets, jerseys, and pants next season. Thus far, Cleveland has anno unced no similar plans.
