Efforts to resettle Haitian refugees in the US are running into new problems. With good sailing weather in May and June, the continuing flow of illegal Haitian refugees to Florida is expected to pick up sharply. A boat with 101 Haitians reached south Florida April 21.

Other Haitians are coming by plane -- paying up to $2,000 for what they are told are valid passports and visas.

Many private agencies involved in resettling Cuban refugees used to help place Haitians, too. No longer. They now say the US is taking advantage of their services.

The only Haitian refugee camp, near Miami, already with about 500 refugees, is likely to get more crowded in the months ahead. And few lawyers make the drive o ur to the camp to prepare defenses against deportation.m
