Bonn is said to consider women in armed services

West Germany may bring women into the armed forces to compensate for a falling birthrate, the Welt Am Sonntag newspaper reported. Moves to enable women and foreigners born in West Germany to do military service were outlined in proposals sent to the parliamentary Defense Committee in January, it said.

The Defense Ministry confirmed that such proposals were under review but denied a report that women might be conscripted.
