A New York reader writes: Your recent informative feature on the Shaw Festival mentions the Pillar and Post as the "largest" of several old-fashioned inns in Niagra-on-the-Lake, Ontario. It may be the largest, but at least two of the town's other hostelries deserve mention. From any experience, they are superior. These two are the recently renovated Prince of Wales and the grande dame of local inns, the Oban, Both hotels have excellent dining rooms, upholding the local tradition for good eating and superior service.

The Oban is on the lakefront. The Prince of Wales is within easy strolling distance of the Festival Theater. According to the festival's 1981 guide, there are nine motels and hotels in Niag ra-on-the-Lake plus several more in the general area.
