Alone

If all the animals in the world should go To some far distant Jupiter plain -- And not a single fur, feather, Silver scale or bell-wether Here remain -- No hawk flying high No mole digging low, Nor penguin, polar, reindeer, crow -- All silent grasses and empty sea And flowers drooping For want of bee -- No monkey, mouse or moose, Gazelle, giraffe or goose -- Vacant the lair of the grizzly bear And undulating squid Deep under -- Dog, deer and Dobbin and cheery robin, Kitten and kiwi and kangaroo -- No sad lost cry of the loon, Nor elephant, lion or rhino, Nor butterfly at noo -- Oh what a lonesome earth that day If all animals were to go away!
