Guards regain control at a Michigan prison

Prison guards backed by police and sheriff's deputies regained control of Marquette Prison, where some 100 inmates torched buildings and rioted for nearly five hours. Meanwhile, inmates at Southern Michigan Prison, Jackson, who burned their living quarters, were locked up two and three to a cell.

There were no deaths or hostages taken at either facility as a result of the rioting, but 29 people were injured, including 13 guards, 11 inmates and 5 firefighters. Fire damage was extensive at both prisons.

Prison officials believe the series of riots that began Friday -- the worst since 195 2 -- were related to overcrowded conditions.
