Iranian prosecutor's office bans Bani-Sadr's paper

Iran's revolutionary prosecutor's office has banned the newspaper of President Abolhassan Bani-Sadr and several other publications for publishing articles it charges were aimed at creating tension.

The clampdown practically silences all major publications opposed to the clergy-dominated government and is seen as another attempt to isolate the embattled President. Mr. Bani-Sadr has been involved in a long-running feud with leading members of Iran's fundamentalist Islamic Republican Party, which dominates the government, judiciary, and parliament.
