Auto union brass affirms move to rejoin AFL-CIO

Top executives of the United Automobile Workers voted unanimously to reaffiliate with the AFL-CIO as soon as July 1, ending their 13-year separation. The decision by the union's international Executive Board reaffirms an April vote in favor of reaffiliation by rank-and-file delegates.

"Our board believes strongly in the principle of a united labor movement. Reaffiliation with the federation will strengthen that movement in one the most difficult periods working people h ave ever faced," said UAW president Douglas A. Fraser.
